Solar self-supply

Solar self-supply means producing your own electricity with a small solar power plant connected to the building’s internal low-voltage installation. It is designed for households and small businesses. Under the regulations described on the original website, the maximum apparent power fed through the connection's metering point was limited to 80% of the building's connected load. The applicable Slovenian self-supply regulations and their amendments define the details.

The original self-supply model described here was based on annual net metering. Households installed a solar power plant to cover their needs, while electricity surpluses and shortfalls were balanced through the public grid. When solar production exceeded consumption, surplus energy flowed into the grid; when production was insufficient, power was taken from it. At the end of the annual billing period, the difference between imported and exported electricity was calculated in kWh. Correctly sizing the plant to match consumption was therefore essential. Note: the applicable rules may have changed since this content was written.
